Description
Pain sensations can result from adverse sensory and emotional experiences that cause actual or perceived tissue damage. The nervous system detects, processes, and interprets nociceptive stimuli, which is painful or potentially painful stimuli, to create the subjective pain experience. Pain caused by tissue injury, or nociceptive pain, leads to physical disability and high societal economic costs. This three-course suite examines the etiology of nociceptive pain, the methods used to assess the condition, and how both pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies are used in treatment.
