Description
An incurable mental illness, bipolar disorder (previously called manic-depression) produces episodes of major depression alternating with episodes of mania. Patients experience alterations in mood, behavior, and cognition. Moreover, other aspects of brain functioning, such as sensory perception, appetite, or sleep-wake cycle regulation become altered. This three-course suite examines the causes of bipolar disorder, and looks at how it can be diagnosed and treated.
